The 3rd “T”: Why your Spine is Misaligned Part 3

This is part 3 of a series of blog posts about the “3 T’s”, which are the different categories of stressors we encounter on a regular basis. These stressors are what our nervous systems have to adapt to in order to stay healthy. Dysfunction in the body occurs when the impact of these stressors is too great for our system to handle. Essentially, the 3 T’s are the inevitable stress in our lives that cause us to get stuck in patterns and unsupportive behavior.

So far we have talked about the first 2 “T”’s which are traumas (physical stress) and thoughts (mental/emotional stress).

The third “t” is toxins. Unfortunately, we encounter toxins all day every day. They are in our food, clothes, cleaning products, personal care products, beverages, the air and more. These toxins cause inflammation and disruption to our system. The nervous system is constantly responding and adapting to the toxic build up in our body.

We can avoid certain toxins by making smart choices in our daily life. Some of the ones I recommend are:

  • Switching to all glass containers instead of plastic & please NEVER microwave food in plastic containers!

  • Use a stainless steel water bottle instead of a plastic ones.

  • Chemicals & microplastics hang out in our homes in the form of dust, so vacuum regularly.

  • Use an air purifier.

  • Drink clean, filtered water. We have a re-mineralized, reverse osmosis water filtration system at home so we have easy access to good water. Avoid drinking tap water.

  • Cook with non-toxic cookware such as stainless steel or cast iron pots and pans. Avoid “non-stick” or Teflon cookware.

  • Using non-toxic cleaning products - I love Branch Basics.

  • Using non-toxic personal care products - I like Dr Bronner’s for body wash. There are a lot of non-toxic make up products out there but you might have to shop around and see what works for you.

These are just a few of the ways we can consciously limit our interaction with toxins on a daily basis. We can also become more resilient to toxins by making efforts to detox through sweating, drinking lots of water, getting good sleep and eating clean foods with lots of fiber.

Another important piece of the puzzle is supporting the nervous system so that your body can manage and respond to the toxic load. Our body has many different detoxification pathways that all interact with the nervous system. The more connected our system is, the better our nervous system is able send clear & accurate signals, allowing the body to function more effectively.

Chiropractic care aims to restore the full power of your nervous system by removing interferences in your spine. This is a never-ending process of responding to what you are facing in each moment and varies as you move through different stages of stress throughout your life. Chiropractic is an amazing tool to help you adapt, heal and come back home to yourself, time and time again.
